Wright Express, State of Illinois Reach Fleet Card Deal

SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE - Wright Express will provide fleet fuel cards and management services to the State of Illinois as part of a new three-year contract that will be implemented in three phases and ultimately include nearly 20,000 vehicles.

The contract with Wright Express, a leading fleet management services company, covers all State of Illinois vehicles that purchase gasoline and will bring all related billing and reporting functions under a single company to help streamline operations, a move that will increase efficiency and reduce expense. Wright Express also offers WEXOnline, a powerful online account management tool that greatly simplifies fleet management and helps to streamline management of government fleets.

"We have a strong presence in the state and local government fleet market and as a result of the program we offer, especially our industry-leading online application, we see increasing success," said Michael Dubyak, president of Wright Express. "We now provide fuel purchasing and management services for 18 states, with Illinois standing as one of the largest."

During Phase II, about 10,000 vehicles from more than 50 state agencies will be handled by Wright Express. That number will expand to approximately 20,000 after the program becomes available to all Illinois counties, municipalities and other governmental departments and agencies.

The contract follows a pilot program in which three large state agencies - Illinois State Police, Department of Transportation and Department of Central Management Services - tested the Wright Express service.

"Working with Wright Express has helped reduce paperwork, cut costs and greatly increase efficiency," said Carl Spath, manager, license and title section, State of Illinois. "And not just for us. We have received telephone calls from vendors thanking us for saving them the time and headaches of having to manually imprint every state fuel transaction."

In the past, Illinois used its own private label card that could not be processed electronically and had limited vendor acceptance.

The advantages of a Wright Express fleet program include: automatic calculation of tax exemptions to save time and money; consolidated accounts from billing to reporting to help streamline operations; WEXOnline, which enables users perform extensive account management functions via the Internet; pump-and-go capability to reduce driver downtime; and the ability to download data to financial programs, thus eliminating the need to manually re-key information."

South Portland-based Wright Express is the leading provider of fleet charge cards to the fleet maintenance and fueling industry with its cards accepted at more than 160,000 locations. Wright Express also provides information management, payment processing, and financial services to fleets through card partnerships with oil companies and fleet management companies. Through its own universal fleet card program, its partners' card programs and its MasterCard program, Wright Express has nearly four million commercial cards in its markets. Wright Express LLC, a subsidiary of Cendant Corp., employs more than 640 people at its headquarters in South Portland, Maine and its subsidiary in Salt Lake City, Utah.
