Octane is the first mobile app with real-time fuel price data, and
text-to-speech capabilities
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 12, 2012--
Wright
Express Corporation (NYSE: WXS) today announced that
InformationWeek has recognized it as one of the 500 most innovative
users of business technology, for the second consecutive year.
For 24 years, InformationWeek editors have tracked the technology,
strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s
best-known companies. In 2011 and again in 2012, Wright Express has been
recognized for its focus and investment on innovation. The company’s
investment in mobile technology including its fuel site locator app,
"Octane,” emphasizes this focus. “Octane” helps drivers find the lowest
fuel prices and provides real-time fuel station data and up-to-date,
local transaction-based prices. Additionally, the mobile app is the
first in the industry to integrate text-to-speech technology for
hands-free operation. This allows drivers to hear, rather than read
directions to their selected fueling site and focus on driving safely.
“We are honored to receive this prestigious award again in 2012 for our
commitment to technology which reflects our ongoing commitment to
develop innovative products driven by customer demand,” said George
Hogan, senior vice president and chief information officer at Wright
Express. “The innovation teams at Wright Express should be extremely
proud of this award, and I congratulate everyone for the vital role they
play in enabling our technology leadership strategy.”
“This year’s innovations were particularly impressive,” said
InformationWeek editor in chief Rob Preston. “What the editors looked
for are unconventional approaches – new technologies, new models, new
ways of grabbing business opportunities and solving complex business
problems with IT.”
Past winners include The Vanguard Group, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Monster
Worldwide, USAA, Merck and Colgate-Palmolive. The InformationWeek 500
rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power
of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying
the biggest IT spenders.
The annual list was revealed on September 11 at an awards gala ceremony
during the InformationWeek 500 Conference at the St. Regis Monarch Beach
Resort, Dana Point, Calif.
