WEX’s Mobile Payments Technology Receives Business Innovation Award
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 30, 2015--
WEX
Inc. (NYSE: WEX), a leading provider of corporate payment solutions,
today announced it has ranked 19th, up from 26th
last year, on this year’s InformationWeek Elite 100 list of the top U.S.
business technology innovators.
Additionally, WEX’s Mobile Payment Gateway Enabler received
InformationWeek’s 2015 Business Innovation award in the
technology-enabled new product category. WEX developed this solution to
solve the complicated and costly challenge that fleet managers face when
adapting fleet credit cards to a mobile wallet. With a fleet card, there
are multiple drivers using one card because the card is effectively tied
to a vehicle, rather than an individual – and there could be thousands
of vehicles. The individual users, each with their own mobile wallet,
wouldn’t be able to register so many cards and/or know which one to use
for any given transaction. Therefore, WEX’s Mobile Payment Gateway
Enabler solution issues a virtual token that can be used like a WEX fuel
card on a mobile device. The transaction is secure and seamless, as WEX
determines the appropriate card to utilize for the transaction and
vehicle.
Steve Crowley, WEX’s senior vice president, shared services and CIO, and
John Thomas, WEX’s vice president of fleet technologies, accepted the
award on WEX’s behalf at the Elite 100 Awards Dinner and Gala on April
28.
“We believe strongly in the power of technology in the payments
industry, and we focus on solving the right challenge for our
customers,” said Crowley. “The WEX Mobile Payment Gateway Enabler
Solution is an example of how we balance the technology opportunity with
the need to provide our customers with better controls and data to make
smart business decisions.”
"Gone are the days IT could run as an entity unto itself. If IT isn't
part of product development, or marketing, or customer service, your
company risks falling behind in the era of digital business,” said
InformationWeek Editor Chris Murphy. “At InformationWeek, we talk about
this as 'IT Without Borders,' as we see the best IT leaders tearing
down traditional borders to help every department leverage technologies
such as data analytics, cloud, and mobility. The 2015 InformationWeek
Elite 100 spotlights companies at which IT is not only inseparable from
every department, it's pivotal to every customer experience."
This is InformationWeek’s 27th year identifying and honoring
the nation's most innovative users of information technology and the
fifth consecutive year WEX has made the list. The InformationWeek Elite
100 research tracks the technology-based investments, strategies, and
results of some of the best-known organizations in the country. Unique
among corporate rankings, the InformationWeek Elite 100
spotlights the power of business technology innovation. Additional
